Finlay Carson MSP & Emma Harper MSP

Finlay Carson MSP and Emma Harper MSP - both long-standing campaigners for improved birthing services in Stranraer will meet with the Galloway Community Hospital Action Group (GCHAG) to continue discussions on the future of maternity care in Wigtownshire.

The meeting will focus on the potential reinstatement of midwife-led births at the Galloway Community Hospital and will also consider this weeks update from the Integration Joint Board (IJB) on maternity services in the region.

In addition, the MSPs and GCHAG will discuss the findings of the recent Scottish Human Rights Commission report on maternal care in the Highlands and Islands, exploring how its conclusions may be relevant to the experiences of mothers in Wigtownshire.

Finlay Carson MSP said:

"This is about ensuring that women in Wigtownshire have the choice of access to safe, local, and dignified maternity care. I’m pleased to be working alongside Emma Harper MSP and GCHAG to keep this issue firmly on the agenda."

Emma Harper MSP added:

"As someone who has campaigned for years on rural maternity services, I know how vital it is that we listen to local voices and push for solutions that are safe, that are based on choice and also meet the needs of families in Stranraer and beyond."

The meeting reflects a continued commitment to securing equitable and accessible maternity services for communities across Dumfries and Galloway .
