Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has announced his support for Tom Tugendhat in the forthcoming Conservative leadership election.

He firmly believes that Tom has the necessary credentials and qualities to provide strong leadership and unite the UK party once again.

Mr Carson said: “I think Tom is an outstanding candidate and I am delighted to offer him my support as he has already shown at Westminster.

“He is someone who listens, thinks and then leads which is something that the party needs after the disappointing General Election.

“More importantly, Tom is a man of principle, service and duty. Someone who says what he will do and then gets it done.”

Speaking on his visit by Mr Tugendhat to Dumfries on Tuesday, August 20th, Mr Carson believes he would be “huge asset” to the Scottish Conservatives ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections in 2026.

He continued: “Tom has strong links with Scotland and regularly attends our annual general meeting.

“We believe – indeed we know – that he is by far the best person for the job. A unifier to create a united party for our United Kingdom.

“We need a UK leader who will be a help, not a hinderance to the Scottish Conservatives in the battles ahead – Holyrood 2026 and the local elections the year after.

“We do not need a caretaker leader of the opposition, but someone capable and hungry to be the next Prime Minister for all of the UK.”
