Significant Progress on Traffic Speed Concerns in Hardgate Thanks to Local Campaign and MSP Support
Hardgate residents should shortly see a major step forward in their long-standing campaign to address traffic speed concerns in the village, following confirmation that an application will be made for a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) to be installed at the north end of the community.
The move comes after sustained efforts by local resident and campaigner Tam Gaffney, whose dedication to road safety has been instrumental in bringing the issue to the attention of local authorities. Mr McGaffney has worked tirelessly to gather community support and highlight the dangers posed by speeding vehicles entering the village.
His campaign received the full backing of Finlay Carson MSP, who has been actively engaging with Tam and local authorities to ensure the concerns of Hardgate residents are heard and acted upon.
Commenting on the development, Finlay Carson MSP said:
“This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when communities come together and campaign for change. Tam Gaffney’s commitment to improving road safety in Hardgate has been unwavering, and I’m pleased to have been able to support him and the wider community in making real progress. The proposed VAS will be a welcome addition to help reduce speeding and improve safety for everyone in the village.”
In a response to Mr Carson’s enquiry, the Council confirmed that a proposal for the VAS will be submitted to the Road Safety Improvement Fund. The preferred location for the sign is just inside the 30mph zone, where it can effectively detect and alert speeding vehicles.
As part of the funding process, the Council has requested a collective statement from residents outlining their concerns, which will help demonstrate the community’s support for the measure.
Tam Gaffney added:
“This is a big win for Hardgate. It’s taken a lot of persistence, but with the support of Finlay Carson and the backing of the community, we’re finally seeing action. I hope this VAS will make a real difference in slowing traffic and making our village safer.”
The Council has reiterated its commitment to community and road safety, and residents are encouraged to continue voicing their concerns to ensure the project moves forward.
