Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has shown his support for the regions' meat producers at an event in Parliament.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP was in attendance as Quality Meat Scotland hosted a packed out event at Holyrood, with Mr Carson keen to show his support for local farmers and producers, against a current backdrop of an anti-meat agenda.
The event heard how QMS are promoting their ‘Meat with Integrity’ campaign, highlighting the benefits of eating quality red meat, with Scotland remaining one of the best countries in the world for producing beef, lamb and pork.
Those in attendance also heard how the agricultural industry is committed to reducing emissions, but must be supported in doing so going forward.
Mr Carson believes that the importance of red meet to a sustainable and balanced diet cannot be understated and urged his constituents to support local produce not just during this month, but all year round.
Commenting, Finlay Carson MSP said: “I believed it was really important to show my support for Quality Meat Scotland and our producers and farmers across Scotland.
“Currently there can be no doubt there has been an anti-meat agenda being promoted and events like this are important to lay out the positive effects of red meat as part of a balanced diet.
“Our meat producers across Galloway are absolutely vital for the economy and I know that they are committed to reducing emissions and we must support them in doing so.
“As someone who also loves my vegetables, I would encourage those doing Veganuary, whether for the first time or not, to have locally sourced vegetables wherever they can, but also recognise the needs of our meat producers.
“I will continue to stand up for our meat industry to get them the support they richly deserve.”
