Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed moves from the UK Government to boost mobile phone coverage across rural communities.
The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP says the move by the UK Government alongside mobile operators to give 4G coverage to 95 per cent of the UK by 2025.
Mr Carson says this will be a boost to the rural economy and enable people to finally be able to rely on reliable mobile coverage when they are out and about.
Mobile operators are set to invest £530 million in a Shared Rural Network, which will be backed by £500 million from the UK Government.
Commenting, Finlay Carson MSP said: “Poor mobile phone coverage is a constant problem across rural communities that I serve.
“That is why these significant plans to boost coverage in the coming years from operators and the UK Government is very welcome.
“Having access to good mobile coverage will be a good boost for the rural economy, as well as allowing people to finally rely on good coverage while they are out and about.
“In this day and age, good access to mobile coverage is absolutely vital and I hope a final agreement can be reached as quickly as possible.”
