Carson welcomes new lighting at Stranraer station

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed the news that Dumfries and Galloway Council have erected two new street lighting columns on the road heading to Stranraer station.

Mr Carson had been contacted by a constituent who had walked to the station for the first service that departs the station at 7.02am, only to discover that no street lighting was in operation.

The Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP duly wrote to Dumfries and Galloway Council and is pleased that they have taken the decision to erect new columns on the first section of the road leading to the town's station.

The full connection to the power supply will take place in the next couple of weeks, which will benefit passengers in the coming winter months in particular.

Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: "We should be doing all we can to encourage passengers to use Stranraer train station, but they are going to be put off by a lack of street lighting en route to the station.

"I am pleased that the council have agreed to erect new lighting on this road, which will be of great benefit to passengers heading on foot in particular.

"I hope that this will be the first in a number of measures that can improve the upkeep around Stranraer station which is so important to the local economy and I look forward to these lights going live."
